S'Mores Recipes and the S'Mores Bar

Roasting marshmallows usually leads to making S'Mores. If you want to put a little variety in your life you can use lots of other ingredients. It is really fun to include a S'Mores bar with your marshmallow roasting activity. A S'Mores bar is much like a salad bar, everyone gets to pick whatever ingredients they want in their S'Mores.

A S'More consists of a warm toasted marshmallow between two crackers or cookies. After that you can add any ingredient you want with the marshmallow. Most often people will go for the traditional S'More, a graham cracker sandwich filled with roasted marshmallow and chocolate. However there are many variations that are very tasty. Here are a few ingredients that we have tried and really liked with the roasted marshmallow which is the key ingredient to a S'More.

Oreo cookies - any cookie will work as long as it is a crispy cookie and not to soft.

Peanut butter

Any kind of jam or jelly

Banana slices

Strawberry slices

Peach slices

Kiwi slices

Maraschino cherries

Here are some examples of S'Mores we love to make:

Traditional S'More:

Roast one marshmallow

Place half a chocolate bar on half a graham cracker

Take a second half of graham cracker and sandwich the marshmallow between the two graham crackers with the chocolate bar.

Oreo S'More:

Roast one marshmallow.

Twist open your Oreo Cookie.

Sandwich the marshmallow between the two halves of the Oreo cookie.

Peanut Butter Banana S'More:

Use a marshmallow roasting stick and roast a marshmallow over the hot coals

Place a thin layer of peanut butter on half a graham cracker then a couple banana slices

Take a second half of graham cracker and sandwich the marshmallow between the two graham crackers with the bananas.

You can have variety in your marshmallows too. Marshmallow roasting does not have to be limited to standard white marshmallows. Look to see what the store has. Kraft Foods makes a variety of marshmallows including swirl and roasted coconut.

If you want a real treat, use the inline style of marshmallow roasting stick and carefully roast a perfect coconut marshmallow. You don't have to eat it with anything else. It is heavenly by itself.

I should say a little more about the inline safety roasting stick. It is made to have the skewer pointing back toward the handle with a blunt end. This way it can't be used for poking things and if you flip it around the marshmallow will not go flying off. It is also made to prevent the marshmallow from slipping on the skewer after the marshmallow gets soft. This is a problem with any other type of marshmallow roasting stick because the marshmallow gets soft, then sags down and then will not turn when you turn the stick.

The most important thing about the inline safety roasting stick is that it keeps your marshmallow in the exact same spot while you are turning it. This makes marshmallow roasting really fun. You are not always trying to move left, right, up and down to compensate for the marshmallow movement while you turn the stick. You can roast your marshmallow to a perfect golden brown every time and you will be the envy of everyone else that is trying their hand at marshmallow roasting.
